Papertole (also
know as Vue Optique, 3D Art or dimensional
decouppage), is a unique and creative 14th
Century French Craft using 4 or more copies
of the same print, then cutting, shaping and
layering the pieces to create a 3 dimensional
piece of art.. Elements of the picture are
cut out, edges colored, shaped and glued in
layers to create the three-dimensional effect.
When an artist begins his painting, he starts
with the background. It is the same with Paper
tole. The first print is mounted on a solid
base and then you start building up each element
of the picture from the back to the front.
Framing and matting of the finished picture
depend on the type of wood the frame is
made from and the number of mats, fancy
cuts, etc. Like any craft you want the finished
product to look the best it can be to show
others.
It is unique and exclusive, as the making of
one is very time consuming. It can range from
4 hours to many hours (over 100 hours) depending
on how much detail is in the original print.Preservation
of your picture is also important so acid and
lignin free mats are used, which also costs
more.
